Tongue cleaner
Ultrasonic tongue scraper attachment
$9.95

Features
True ultrasound (1.6MHz)
Harnessing the continuous therapeutic 1.6MHz ultrasound emitted by the MEGASONEX® toothbrush, which has been shown to disrupt harmful bacteria, this tongue cleaner makes more than 192 million movements per minute, outpacing conventional tongue cleaners millions of times over.
Multi-speed sonic vibration
If desired, you can supplement your ultrasonic cleaning with sonic vibration at your choice of approximately 300Hz (18,000 movements per minute) or 150Hz (9,000 movements per minute). Or, for cleaning without perceptible vibration, you can scrape your tongue together with pure ultrasound.
Pressure restrictor
This unique central bar spanning the length of the scraper helps ensure that no matter how aggressively you scrape, the pressure restrictor will limit the leading edge to a maximum depth of 1mm, helping to avoid potential damage to your papillae and taste buds.
Dual edge (0.5mm + 1mm)
This tongue cleaner is sculpted with two unique working edges, allowing you to choose between an extra gentle 0.5mm shallow cleaning using one side, or a 1.0mm deep scrub with the other.
Precision crafted
A scraper with a poorly designed or improperly finished leading edge can actually cause more harm than good, cutting the tongue, enabling harmful bacteria to penetrate the bloodstream, even permanently damaging the papillae and taste buds. We use a high-precision process to sculpt pure food-grade polypropylene for a working edge with the perfect sharpness, hardness and angle of attack. This not only maximises tongue cleaning efficacy but more importantly puts your safety first.
Narrow elliptical design
Careful experimentation led us to design an ovoid form with a leading edge sculpted to complement the tongue’s anatomy. Neglecting the depressed topography in the centre of the tongue, conventional tongue scrapers are intended to be dragged across the tongue in one broad stroke, but this can lead to either incomplete cleaning or excessive pressure which can harm the papillae. The MEGASONEX® tongue cleaner is intentionally narrow, to help minimise gag reflex and facilitate separate cleaning of each side of the tongue to maximise efficacy without compromising safety. If turned sideways, it can also offer a more superficial conventional cleaning that is faster yet still protects the tongue thanks to the pressure restrictor.

Speed selection
- Ultrasound plus sonic vibration
- Ultrasound at 1.6MHz
- Sonic vibration at 18,000 or 9,000 movements per minute
- Ultrasound only
- Ultrasound at 1.6MHz
- No sonic vibration
- Manual only
- No ultrasound
- No sonic vibration
How to use
- Before first use, wash with soap and water, like you would a toothbrush.
- Mount and fasten the scraper onto the MEGASONEX® handle like a brush head.
- Select your optimal speed as you would for the toothbrush.
- Place the scraper ¾ the length of the tongue on either the left of right side of the tongue. Gently but firmly move it towards the tip of the tongue. This should take 2-3 seconds. Repeat a few times as needed, rinsing the scraper between each stroke.
- Do the same for the other half of the tongue.
- If desired, turn the scraper 90° to the tongue to cover a wider cleaning area.
- Clean and dry after each use.
- Pressing harder on the tongue does not ensure better removal of the biofilm. In fact, it could do more harm than good. It is far better to clean the tongue more often than to clean it with excessive pressure that can damage the tongue and lead to bleeding, infection and other issues.
Restrictions and limitations
- The scraper has not yet been tested on and therefore should not be used on pregnant women, diabetics or people with subdermal electrical devices such as pacemakers.
- Always consult a qualified medical or dental professional if you are unsure whether it is safe for you to use this device.
- The scraper should not be used with any other device or tool aside from the MEGASONEX® ultrasonic brush handle.
- Try to avoid the very back of your tongue, which houses the circumvallate papillae (6-12 3-4 mm discs). They are involved with digestion and should not be disturbed. This applies to all forms of tongue cleaning.
- As with a toothbrush, do not share your tongue scraper with others to help avoid cross contamination.
- Some individuals have a heightened gag reflex. As with any device going into the mouth, with time and repeated gradual shallow use, this reflex could be reduced. These individuals should start cleaning just the front part of the tongue, then, with practice, slowly increase the cleaning area over a period of weeks or months.

Tongue cleaning science
Thousands of fleshy protuberances called papillae make up the surface of the human tongue, like blades of grass on a lawn. These come in various kinds, many of which house microscopic clusters of taste buds that give us our sense of taste.
Over time, dead cells in the mouth combine with food residue to create a layer of sludge (biofilm) that covers these papillae, while bacteria thrive in the warm, damp, food-filled spaces between the papillae. In the deepest recesses, harmful anaerobic bacteria (ones that can only live in areas where there is no oxygen) thrive. Anaerobic bacteria are a source of bad breath, and can enter the circulatory system, traveling to the kidneys, brain, heart and other organs, leading to various diseases.
Daily tongue cleaning with the MEGASONEX® Ultrasound Tongue Scraper™ can help to eliminate these harmful bacteria. Physical scraping, combined with ultrasound and gentle low-amplitude sonic vibration, works to remove biofilm and bacteria on the surface of the tongue. Once this happens, air can reach the depths of the spaces between the papillae, exposing the anaerobic bacteria to oxygen, which is fatal to them.
When done correctly, tongue cleaning is highly beneficial. However, improper tongue scraping can result in irritation or even permanent damage to the papillae, which can affect one’s sense of taste. It can also result in laceration of the tongue, which can actually facilitate penetration of anaerobic bacteria into the cardiovascular system. This is why it is crucial to use a method that avoids excessive scraping or harm to the tongue. The MEGASONEX® Ultrasound Tongue Scraper™ is precision-engineered for safety with a built-in pressure restrictor in order to help avoid these dangers.
